What does the moment taste like?

Issue 158

Hello!

What a week of highs and lows. Super shaken and sad about Kim Jung Gi passing on Monday. He was two years older than me. I only met him a few times, but he was generous and kind. He even gave me a robot drawing once just to say thanks for Inktober. He also agreed to collab with Inktober at the Moleskine booth tomorrow and do a drawing for us. I was thrilled he was working with us. Sadly, the fates had other plans. He will be missed greatly, but will forever be an inspiration.

On the other hand...I did it! I sent the Spaceships book files off to the printer! That has been pretty much my sole creative focus for the last five months....since MAY. I sent the files Thursday morning, and just felt so good about the work that went into that book. Really proud of it, and can't wait for people to receive their copies.

All that said, I feel like I just ran a marathon. Throw in freelance work, SVSlearn obligations, and Inktober Partnerships on top of that and it feels like I've ran a marathon, while carrying a goat under one arm, while also singing, and doing the gallon milk challenge at the same time. Weird analogy, but my brain is fried right now and I can't think of anything better. haha.

Going to make this a short one today. I'm spending some time with my family this weekend. So just a short update. See you next week!

Enjoy!

1) Inktober 2022 Week 1

From the Art Department

Week one is down! ....and I only had enough gas in the tank to do three drawings. I'm usually pretty amped up to do Inktober every year, but this year that Inktober preparation slot was filled with doing the Spaceships book. Maybe now that the files are sent off I can get caught up on it!

I'm posting process stuff weekly over on the patreon. And this month, Patrons are going to receive a digital copy of the Spaceships book. Great time to sign up: LINK

2) On tasting the moment

From the Inspirational Thought Unit

Like I said earlier, it's a short one today because I'm taking some time to spend with my family this weekend. So only two things today.

I thought this quote by Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh (who died in January at the age of 95) on life sums up my feelings right now:

"When you are a young person, you are like a young creek, and you meet many rocks, many obstacles and difficulties on your way. You hurry to get past these obstacles and get to the ocean.
But as the creek moves down through the fields, it becomes larger and calmer and it can enjoy the reflection of the sky. It's wonderful. You will arrive at the sea anyway so enjoy the journey. Enjoy the sunshine, the sunset, the moon, the birds, the trees, and the many beauties along the way. Taste every moment of your daily life." - Thich Nhat Hanh

I gotta remember this. Life's too short to be in such a hurry all the time. Gotta take those quiet moments when they come, because you won't always have the option.

That's all for this week. Thank you for reading this newsletter and hope you have a great weekend!
